    Rikifest: Rimouski’s Unique Winter Festival

If you’re coming to Rimouski in the winter, don’t miss out on RikiFest, one of the region’s most popular winter events! With many festive, traditional activities on offer, RikiFest is a delightful representation of Bas Saint-Laurent culture. From ice canoeing races to camping and concerts, celebrating winter has never been more fun!

To help you prepare for your visit to Rimouski, Vieux Loup de Mer invites you to find out more about RikiFest and its entertaining activities.

    Activities to discover at RikiFest

Most of the region’s inhabitants know of RikiFest, at least by name. However, many don’t know exactly what goes on at the event. Find out more about the activities on offer at the festival!

    The ice canoeing race

The highlight of the festival is the Défi des Glaces ice canoeing race. Multiple teams compete on the frozen Baie du Bic to win the race and be crowned champions. With its festive, welcoming atmosphere, the event is even more fun than going on a snowmobile tour!

This unusual tradition draws numerous spectators and tourists every year.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s RikiFest ice canoeing race took place on the snow at Parc Beauséjour with a limited number of teams. The race should resume in its usual location on the ice near Parc National du Bic as soon as possible.

    ElectroFest at Parc Beauséjour

Another highlight of RikiFest is ElectroFest, a dance party that takes place in the agora at Parc Beauséjour. Fans of electronic music come from far and wide to attend the event and stay warm by dancing the night away, even in the depths of winter!

    Winter camping in downtown Rimouski

A campground is available downtown for the courageous souls who aren’t afraid of Rimouski’s glacial winter temperatures. For the ultimate winter experience, why not spend the night urban camping after an evening of gyrating to the sounds of ElectroFest?

Tip from Vieux Loup de Mer: For a truly traditional Rimouski experience, try your hand at ice fishing 😉

    And much more!

There are many other things to do during RikiFest besides the activities listed above. Discover Rimouski’s culinary culture, activities for kids and sporting events during the festival.

If you visit Rimouski while the festival is taking place, we encourage you to come check it out! 😊

Rikifest is undeniably a must-see in the Rimouski region in winter! @suequebec can attest to that! 😉

    RikiFest dates

RikiFest usually takes place from the end of January to mid-February. The 2022 edition was held from January 27 to February 12, 2022. The ice canoeing race usually closes the festival, the perfect finale for the popular celebration.

Next season’s festival should take place around the same dates, so if you’re planning to visit the region next winter, consider booking your stay in Rimouski during that period.

Note that the line-up of artists performing at ElectroFest is usually released a few months before the start of the festival.
