Grab your bike and get ready to explore the region\u2019s magnificent landscapes!<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Vieux Loup de Mer has chosen the 7 best bike rides in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. GRAND CIRCUIT MARITIME<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Grand Circuit Maritime is a <\/span>veritable classic <\/b>in the region and is well known among cyclists. This route starts in Rimouski and heads east. The <\/span>61.5 km<\/b> circuit <\/span>alternates between paved trails and<\/b> glimpses of shoreline<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019ll have the chance to see <\/span>many historical sites and views<\/b> during your ride. In Rimouski, you\u2019ll pass the <\/span>Pointe-au-P\u00e8re historic site<\/span><\/a>. Higher up, you can soak in the charm of the <\/span>Sainte-Luce and Sainte-Flavie<\/b> villages.<\/b><\/p>\n

A rather challenging <\/b>route overall, the <\/span>Grand Circuit Maritime<\/span> ends at the edge of the Gasp\u00e9 Peninsula. Make sure to dress warm for the <\/span>crisp sea air <\/b>and get ready to work those calf muscles!<\/span><\/p>\n

2. CIRCUIT TERRE ET MER<\/span><\/h3>\n

As its name suggests, the <\/span>Circuit Terre et Mer<\/span> (Land and Sea route) takes you through both <\/span>seaside and countryside<\/b>. From Trois-Pistoles, the road descends towards the south. You\u2019ll traverse a plateau before cycling along <\/span>Isle-Verte cove<\/b>. From there, hop on the <\/span>ferry<\/b> to the famous Isle-Verte and explore the island\u2019s <\/span>wilderness<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This slightly hilly <\/span>58-kilometre route <\/b>is less challenging than the Grand Circuit Maritime and is perfect for <\/span>intermediate cyclists<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. CIRCUIT DE LA ROUTE DE FRONTI\u00c8RES<\/span><\/h3>\n

The <\/span>Route des Fronti\u00e8res<\/span> is longer than the previous two cycling routes and has a charm all its own. Throughout the <\/span>118-kilometre<\/b> ride,you\u2019ll experience first-hand the <\/span>stunning vistas <\/b>and <\/span>rich history of the Bic region<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The route starts from <\/span>Poh\u00e9n\u00e9gamook beach <\/b>and is simple despite its length. You will have the opportunity to experience <\/span>New Brunswick<\/b> before cycling alongside Lake Poh\u00e9n\u00e9gamook and the <\/span>Maine border<\/b>. Cyclists won\u2019t soon forget the <\/span>colourful forest scenery<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vieux Loup de Mer\u2019s Tip: For <\/b>motorcycle lovers in the Lower St. Lawrence<\/b>, know that some of these tours can also be done on your motorized two-wheeler! \ud83d\ude0a<\/b><\/p>\n

4. PETIT T\u00c9MIS INTERPROVINCIAL PARK TRAIL<\/span><\/h3>\n

The <\/span>Petit T\u00e9mis interprovincial park trail<\/span> is a long, easy route that takes you eastward from the<\/span> Rivi\u00e8re-du-Loup to Edmundston<\/b>. You\u2019ll follow the <\/span>74-kilometre trail <\/b>through beautiful countryside before experiencing <\/span>Lake T\u00e9miscouata<\/b>. The tour then continues along the <\/span>Madawaska River<\/b> all the way to Edmundston.<\/span><\/p>\n

You can take the <\/span>ferry <\/b>across the lake to Saint-Juste-du-Lac.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. CIRCUIT DES \u00c9GLANTIERS<\/span><\/h3>\n

The <\/span>Circuit des \u00c9glantiers<\/span> runs from Kamouraska to Rivi\u00e8re-du-Loup. You\u2019ll follow the <\/span>St. Lawrence coastline<\/b> for almost the entire journey.<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout your <\/span>42-kilometre<\/b> ride<\/b>, you\u2019ll have the chance to admire the famous <\/span>monadnocks<\/b>. These rocky hill formations dot the Kamouraska plain. You will also take in the beautiful seascapes.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Tip from Vieux Loup de Mer<\/b>: Brave souls can continue along the Petit T\u00e9mis Interprovincial Linear Park trail after reaching Rivi\u00e8re-du-Loup! Once you\u2019ve finished this trail, gather your courage and head east.<\/b><\/p>\n

6. GRAND CIRCUIT OF THE ROUTE DES MONTS NOTRE-DAME<\/span><\/h3>\n

Spanning <\/span>275 kilometres <\/b>(!), the <\/span>Grand Circuit de la Route des Monts Notre-Dame<\/span> is the <\/span>longest trail <\/b>on our list. You\u2019ll start your great cycling adventure at <\/span>Trois-Pistoles<\/b>. From there, the path <\/span>descends eastward<\/b> along Lake T\u00e9miscouata to D\u00e9gelis, where you\u2019ll find <\/span>Mont Saint-Anne<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then begins your ascent to Rimouski. The journey is long, but there are <\/span>many natural and historical sites <\/b>to stop at along the way. Don\u2019t miss Pain de Sucre, Montagne de la Tour or <\/span>Montagne Blanche<\/b>!<\/span><\/p>\n

Tip: It\u2019s possible to do (shorter) versions of these loops. You can study the existing cycling routes to create your own!<\/b><\/p>\n

7. CIRCUIT CYCLOSPORTIF<\/span><\/h3>\n

This last route is also the most <\/span>demanding<\/b>!The <\/span>Circuit Cyclosportif<\/span> will put even the most experienced of us to the test. This <\/span>55-kilometre <\/b>route starts in Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha!<\/span><\/p>\n

A second stop on the shores of lake T\u00e9miscouata is a must!<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

You\u2019ll conquer many hills and <\/span>gain 751 metres of elevation<\/b>. This trail is therefore not suited to children. You may break a sweat, but the breathtaking views of Lake T\u00e9miscouata make this bike ride <\/span>well worth the effort<\/b>!<\/span><\/p>\n

Note: Most of these tours use routes from the <\/b>Route Verte du Qu\u00e9bec<\/b>! \ud83d\ude0a<\/b><\/p>\n
